Gameplay
This game is a business management sim with a running story that adds to the gameplay and while there isn’t anything to difficult to learn while playing this game there are some things you’ll want to be aware of.
There’s about three factors to Call of Boba that make up the gameplay which are running the boba shop, the story mode, and the dreamscape.
Of course, in this game you will be slinging boba and running drinks as you build each order to perfection for every customer that comes your way. Fill each cup with different fillings, teas, and milk as you serve all the patrons who come to the shop within a timely manner.
There will be times when you will get a story specific cut scene in which you will have to make a special drink for a customer. This sequences are not times and allow you to try multiple times to get the drink right. The game is pretty forgiving in this aspect as regardless of whether you mess up the drink or not the game will not punish you too hard for it.
The next part is the actual story mode where you will be running around town fishing, gardening, and exploring as you complete quests to further the plot. None of this is hard, though, it can be a bit difficult to figure out how you’re supposed to complete certain tasks as the game will not give you much direct instruction. You may need to click around a bunch or look more in depth when trying to find out where to go so keep that in mind when playing the actual game.
The last section of gameplay is in the dreamscape. Whenever you fall asleep, you have the option of entering a dream like dungeon that will allow you to get more resources. Use your boba cannon to take on enemies like clingy office chairs, bunnies with boxing gloves, and mischievous looking trash cans.
This section of the game can be toggled on and off with the help of the magical lamp in your room, so this is a great way to get more resources for when you’re awake. Also, who doesn’t love the idea of using a boba gun?
Who Will Love This Game?
Those who love management sim games, cozy content, and players who are in a stage of rediscovering themselves will enjoy this game. The cozy vibes, wholesome story, and engaging gameplay make this game a lighthearted adventure that is told in a very empathetic way.
The gameplay is not too difficult and there’s enough variety to keep you busy what with all the shop management, storyline, fishing, gardening, and sleepy time dungeon crawling. All these coupled together with a fun aesthetic will give you a title that is soothing to play in the best way possible.
Who Will Not Like this Game?
Though Call of Boba is a great title there are some taste factors that may not jell with certain players mainly those who are not interested in management sims, prefer more straightforward play, or those who hate penguins.
This being a game about running a boba shop you should expect that you’re gonna be making boba, and lots of it. Call of boba utilizes all the regular game mechanics that come with a business management sim. Don’t be surprised when you compiling boba drinks like a tea themed Subway and running from station to station trying to make each order. If this reminds you too much of your retails days then you may not like this title.
Another aspect of the game is that while the controls are fairly straightforward it can be a bit confusing to figure out certain aspects of the game such as late night shifts or how to complete certain story tasks. While this is not a big draw back it can hamper your play if you’re not interested in figuring out how the game works.
Also, it’s worth noting that as the publishing of this post the game is still in early access. If there’s an aspect of the game that doesn’t feel right to you just keep in mind that the developers are still working on it.
