Finding the right keyboard for your setup can be challenging. The market is awash with thousands of different keyboards all ranging from budget friendly pricing to “Oh God, that’s as much as my paycheck for the week.”
When I finally decided to buy a a new keyboard I was overwhelmed by the many options that were available to me
. Not only was it my first time buying a mechanical keyboard, but it was also during the pandemic when it seemed like shortages were prevalent in every product buying space. When I finally did take the plunge, I landed on the Razer Blackwidow V3 keyboard in black
This is the keyboard that I have had for the past two years now and I’d like to share a bit about it in case you are looking to purchase one for yourself.
Razer has been one of the top developers of gaming products for a long time. They sell headsets, microphones, laptops, and keyboards. But are this brand’s products ones that you need for your specific build? Let’s delve into the review and see if the Razer Black Widow V3 keyboard is the right one for you.

Keyboard Fit
The fit of the keyboard is fairly well designed. The Razer Blackwidow comes with hot swappable clicky keys and green switches.
Right off the bat I could tell a huge difference when I swapped from my membrane keyboard to the mechanical Razer Blackwidow. The keyboard feels comfortable and easy to use.
The ergonomic design keeps your hands from tiring too quickly and feels natural when typing or gaming. The way the board is set up brings about a sense of comfort to the product that is satisfying for all kinds of gamers.
Typing and gaming can both be accomplished on this keyboard with ease and a fluidity that is very much appreciated by a gamer such as myself.
The wrist rest that comes with the keyboard makes the experience even more enjoyable and takes a lot of the pressure off of your wrist while you game. As someone who writes and games a lot this keyboard was a lifesaver.
The Razer Blackwidow feels very smooth to use and is intuitive to anyone who wants a product that they can use that feels natural.
I will say if you are the proud owner of a pair of small hands like I am reaching some of the keys might be difficult for you. A lot of gaming products are built for larger hand sizes and the Razer Black Widow is no exception.
While I have gotten used to using this keyboard with few problems it can be difficult for those with smaller hands to reach the top keys or other areas of the keyboard.
While this may not be a deal breaker for most people if you it for you then you may want to consider getting something smaller. Otherwise this keyboards fit and feel are very well designed and make The Razer Blackwidow a solid choice for any gamer to use for their PC setup.
Keyboard Look
As far as look of the product is goes this model is very sleek with a modern design with RGB lighting capabilities that are customizable and will brilliantly light up your board.
The keyboard is standard but with an added media button and scrolling wheel that can be programmed for various uses such as switching between various game modes or weapons.
Personally, I have never once used these added keys in a capacity that added much value to me but that does not mean it will not be useful for others who may enjoy this feature.
At the time of publishing this article the Blackwidow V3 comes in four separate colors and designs so you have several buying options when deciding which one to get.
The look and feel of this keyboard are sturdy with a smooth finish that feels satisfying to the touch. This keyboard looks aesthetically pleasing and will fit with most builds.
Considering how much your fingers make contact with a keyboard that’s quality in and of itself. The finish also lasts and does not fade overtime for this model so color is not something you will have to worry about.
The Razar Blackwidow also comes with a customization software known as the Razer Synapses program that will allow you to change your RGBs. As someone who has a black, purple, and pink gaming build this keyboard has been a great purchase for fitting that aesthetic
Of course the black finish was great for my build but the backlighting RGBs allowed me to add some more purple to my build to tie everything together. This might be a good thing to keep in mind if you’re not sure whether the color will suite the theme your going for as you can always change the RGBs to fit your desired aesthetic beter.
While this aspect of the keyboard is a welcome one the Synapse program can be a bit difficult to use. After looking up some tutorials online I was able to figure it out so it’s not impossible to use but could be a bit frustrating if you’re not used to using it. Once I figured it out, I was golden and able to have neon style RGBs that are the light of my gaming dreams.

Keys
Moving on to the actual keys on this board they are clicky, customizable, and mechanically built for accuracy.
The Razer Blackwidow V3 comes in both green tactile“clicky” keys and yellow silent keys.
The switches are NOT customizable so keep that in mind when making your final purchase decision but as for swapping out the key caps it is fairly easy process.
Also bear in mind that while this model comes in four separate colors they do not all come in yellow or green switches.
For example, the pink Quartz edition only comes in the yellow silent switches whereas the black model has options for almost all the different switches Razer offers for their keyboards. So if you’re looking to get this model in rose Quartz or any other color be sure to check what switches they have on offer as they may not be the ones you want.
I purchased the version with the green “clicky” keys in black, and I have enjoyed having the noise as it reminds me of a type writer (weird I know). I also makes me feel more productive when I work on typing or playing games as I can physically hear myself working which enhances to experience for me.
However, you might want to rethink the clicky keys if you work around other people or your microphone picks up a lot of background noise as the clicking is VERY noticeable.
I have been told by many people who live with me how loud my keys are and can cause a bit of an annoyance for those you may be living around.
This might also apply to you if you like to stream as the noise could become annoying for some viewers if you’re using your keyboard a lot.

Pros
- Design is well executed.
- Keys are customizable.
- Customizable RGBs.
- Comfortable wrist rest.
- Lasts for years.
- Sleek newer look.
- RGB lights for days.
Cons
- A bit bigger for those who have smaller hands.
- The program for the RGB set up can be a bit temperamental.
- The green tactical keys are VERY clicky (not a con for me but maybe for others).
The Razer Blackwidow v3 is a staple product that has the quality and design to support all your gaming needs. The finish of the keyboard, ergonomic design, and RGB capabilities make this a prime product for any PC gaming setup.
Though the keyboard is well built some users may find difficulty with the board if they have smaller hand sizes or absolutely despise the Razer Synapses software that is needed for this board.
Despite this, the board’s set up, longevity, and comfortable design will bring you hours of enjoyable use with whatever activities you choose to use it for.
