It’s a new year and that means a fresh start for everyone. The whole “new year, new you” slogan gets bounced around a lot. I know for me, along with my other goals, I want to really upgrade my gaming space this year to make it cozier. For those of you looking to add a bit more “umph” to your gaming space here are 11 ideas to help along in your décor journey.
If this sounds like you then here are 11 ideas for you to create your own cozy game room.
Cozy Game Room Ideas
Mousepads
Mousepads are essential when it comes to a functional gaming space but this doesn’t mean they need to be boring. Often times getting a really huge mouse pad with a cool theme is a fun way to add some personality to your gaming area. Mousepads are also relatively cheap and come in a variety of patterns. Just as an example, when I updated to a large mouse pad I was in love.
I was going for a Sanrio Kuromi theme and the mousepad really tied everything together. Not only did it help to solidify my overall aesthetic but it gave me more room to work with when it came to using my mouse. If you haven’t already consider upgrading to one that fits your personality, then you should definitely look into it as this is a great avenue to liven up your desk.
If you’re a Kuromi fan like I am you can snag the same mousepad I use here on Amazon.
Candles
Candles are a sure fire way (pun intended) to make any space feel more cozy. Not only do they add a nice smell to your room but the light creates an ambience that is hard for artificial light to copy. Finding a scent that makes you feel good like linen, lavender, vanilla, or something that calms your mind are all great choices when deciding on a few for your space.
Finding ones that also look cute as well as smell nice are a win win when it comes to décor too. Target has a solid array of candles and I’ve had a bit of luck at Aldi if you’re looking to buy your candles with your groceries. You can also find some fun ones on Amazon though I would be careful as you can’t smell candles online before you buy them.
Pillows and Blankets
One main idea to keep in mind here when creating a cozy game room is to make a space where you can feel safe and relaxed while you enjoy playing your games. Few things are cozier than a good pillow and a soft blanket. Finding decorative pillows with soft textiles, warm colors, fun shapes, and even ones with quirky characters on them are all great things to add to your space.
The same applies for blankets as you can find fun ones online or even thrift them if you like to dig through your local Goodwill. Making sure to choose items that fit your style are also important so don’t be afraid to look up some inspiration photos on Pinterest or YouTube to help you get an idea of what you’re looking for. Couple some of these with a few candles and you’re well on your way to having a cozy and homey space.
Mood Lights
Lighting is another big element in making your space more cozy. RBG strips are a great way to do this as well as mood lights, lamps with dim settings, and screen lamps. The key to making this cozy is to not overdo the white bright lighting which can be pretty easy to gain with any gaming space. To help you achieve that cozy vibe in your space you’ll want soft orange lights or a bunch of different lights to help balance all of them out.
RGBs are great for highlighting aspects of a room while lamps are great for setting ambient lighting. Creating balance in your space through lighting that sets the mood really helps to create a feel in your room where you want to hang out there for long periods of time.
Stuffed Animals
Have a bunch of stuffed animals but not sure what to do with them? If you’re someone who loves stuffed animals then I would definitely recommend using them in your décor. They make a cute and personal addition to any gaming space and you can definitely use them to heighten the cozy factor.
You can put them on top of your rig, around your screens, on your tables, in your chairs, or, if you have some REALLY big ones, set them against the wall next to tables or chair to add more to your space. This is also a good way to add some more personality to your room to make it feel like your own.
Figurines
Just like stuffed animals figurines can also be a great way to liven your space. Adding shelves to your walls to display figures and décor is a great way to add some more depth to your room. You can also add your figurines to your setup, bookshelves, side tables, and anywhere you can place other décor pieces. As a word of caution, yes you can add figurines to your PC, just be sure to do your research and do it SAFELY.
You do not need your rig overheating in the pursuit of yassifying your PC (even if it does look REALLY cool).
Consoles
Believe it or not your gaming consoles can make for great décor in your space. Are you one of those people who has spent a long time decorating your Nintendo Switch? Put the dock next the tv or in front of your screens so that everyone can see it. Have a fancy looking rig? Put it on your desk or on a side table to make it more visible. Have some classic style consoles? Get some stands and display them on your shelves to add to your décor options.
People spend A LOT of money on consoles and it would be a shame no to be able to show them off in a way that is meaningful to you. This also makes it easier for you to find and use your consoles when you want to play them so keep that in mind.
Shelves
Adding more organizational and display options to your space through shelves and cabinets is also another key to creating a homey game room. Of course shelves are great for having something to put your stuff on but they’re also a great opportunity for showing off your hobbies.
I mentioned earlier how you can do this with your gaming consoles but you can also do this with Lego builds, book collections, cute décor, fun book ends, and even physical copies of your games are all things you could be adding to your shelves to make them more fun.
Rugs
Rugs are like the mousepads of the floor…ok so not really but you know what I mean. Like decorative mousepads they do a phenomenal job of tying together a space. Finding an interesting rug like on Amazon or even at Walmart can really liven up a room.
Rugs also add another layer to the cozy factor so even if you already have carpeted floors a rug or two adds for even more coziness. Often the best way to add more coziness to your space is to add more softness in some shape, form, or fashion. Rugs are great for this as they add more softness to a space, literally and figurately. They’re also really good about collecting dust so your floors look cleaner so it’s a win- win if you can snag one.
Plants
If you’re like me…you’ve had a few plants die on you. If you’re not like me and currently have a thriving greenhouse in your home then you might be able to adopt your leafy greens into your game room. Using plants as a décor option adds more personality and coziness to your game room as they add some lively color to any living space. Hanging them from the ceiling, the walls, putting them on shelves, or even placing them on your rig are all fun ideas to use your plants.
As gamers it can be difficult for us to go outside to touch grass sometimes so adding plants to your room also helps to create a healthier environment. If you struggle to keep your plants alive you can always buy fake ones. These might also be good if you’re planning on putting them around a lot of technology I.E your rig or if you just don’t get a lot of sunlight in your game room.
Interesting Furniture
Shelves are not the only way that you can add more interesting elements to your gaming space. Finding quirky foot rests, fun chairs, or even eye catching tables are all ways that you can add some more personality to your space.
Thrifting side tables and a desk to put your PC on also helps to add more uniqueness to your room. If you’re handy with a can of paint and some contact paper you can also customize furniture to your liking to make things more personal to you. This space is all yours so don’t be afraid to add more of YOU into the decorating process.
