Not sure if the newest MySims remaster is right for you? This article is all about helping you decide if you should play MySims Kingdom.
Most people who grew up in the 2000s era will recognize to an extent the sub gaming franchise of the popular Sims known as MySims. This series was created as a more child friendly and cuter version of the original brand. While this version of the Sims has petered out over time EA has remastered and rereleased MySims and MySims Kingdom for the Nintendo Switch as a new cozy bundle. If you’ve seen these two titles popping up in the Nintendo eShop you might be wondering if these games are up to your standards.
While this blog has already covered the remastered version of the original MySims game (which you can read here) this article will be all about MySims Kingdom. Ready to see if this game is the one for you? Keep on reading to see if you should play MySims Kingdom.

Story
In this game you play as a villager in a small kingdom ruled by a man known as King Roland. King Roland once had a group of people who would aid him in the upkeep of his vast domain known as the Wandoliers. These individuals would travel around the world and use the power of magic to help others in need.
Through spreading kindness and building up society one magical brick at a time the vast kingdom prospered greatly under their care. However, many of these Wandoliers have either retired or left the kingdom altogether. Leaving the king with very little help in keeping his kingdom and his subjects on the up and up. The king has decided to start a contest to decide who will be his newest Wandolier (i.e you) and will spring board your journey into King Roland’s vast domain.
In this game you are your own customizable character as you enter the scene as a lowly peasant whose sole job is to rally pigs and sweep. However, your life is soon turned upside down after winning the tournament (which is honestly the tutorial) as you are now given the power to travel around the world in search of people to help and structures to build.

This is the background that facilitates the cute premise of being able to sail around to other islands and solve problems for people with the wave of a wand. While the story is a wholesome one there is very little depth in the characters. The game gives a much more bare bones gameplay and story than in the original. So if you’re someone who is looking for a more fleshed out story in your newest gaming purchase than you may want to stay way from this title.
Despite this I could see those who are tired from a hard day’s work and needing a break enjoying this came. There is not a lot of brain power required in trying to finish this game and is a franchise that adults and kids could enjoy depending on your taste. If you’re someone who isn’t looking for a lot of story heavy content then you may want to check out this game.
Gameplay
Like the story, the gameplay has some motifs from the original but takes a new spin on it for this iteration. Your trusty wand is the main source of your magic and is the vessel through which you are able to build buildings, fix machines, and solve problems.
The building mechanics are somewhat the same and are a bit more fluid. You are given a guideline as a blueprint and are able to flip and move objects through the use of your two joy sticks. The game puts more of an emphasis on building houses and landscape features rather than furniture. This means that you can’t design individual items like you could in the original MySims.
The main focus of the game is problem solving and quest doing. The quests are very easy and don’t really call for much creativity. This way of running the game changes the premise drastically from the original and could be a bit off putting for some gamers.
It’s safe to say that if you played the original MySims game and decided to try MySims Kingdom for the same creative gameplay you are not going to get this. This is a very quest-based game that restricts a lot of what you can build and how you can build it. However, the quests are fairly easy and the game does hold your hand a lot. So if you’re looking for a game that doesn’t require a lot of brain power to complete and one you can play while relaxing then you might like this game.
Pros
- Cute story
- Easy gameplay for tired minds.
Cons
- Gameplay can become boring after a while.
- Vastly different than the original.
Conclusion
Given the onslaught of games in recent years sometimes it’s nice to kick back and enjoy something a bit older to cleanse the gaming pallet.
While MySims Kingdom is a different take on the sub franchise it’s a solid game for those looking for something with not a lot of complicated gameplay. If that sounds like you then consider giving MySims Kingdom an try, and maybe you should play MySims Kingdom.

Amazing post! I’ve considered picking up the bundle but wasn’t sure if it had changed much from the updated remake or if they’d be similar to what I remembered. Now I know.
