Knowing How to Swim
The game mechanics of FOM are very similar to that of Animal Crossing when it comes to fishing and diving. Fishing is pretty straightforward and a fun pass time for getting more money under your belt. But one thing that can be hard to figure out is how to dive. Whenever you are by a body of water make sure that you are standing right next to it then press the space button and your character will jump right in. This helps you to dive at diving spots but also allows you to explore more areas of the game.
Go Cut Some Grass
It’s time to take touching grass to a whole other level. In FOM you are not given a hoe to cut down grass or harvest certain crops. Instead, you must embrace the way of the knight by using your sword. If you’re looking to clear your land of grass and fiber then you will want to use your sword to take a swing at all the weeds that are growing on your land lovely plot of land.
The great thing about this is that you lose no stamina when cutting grass with your sword. You also don’t have to worry about cutting near your crops as your sword will not affect them. You needn’t worry about swinging your sword the wrong way and giving your cabbage plant an unexpected haircut.
Mind the Mines
This should go without saying but I’m gonna put it in here for those who have never played a game with mining capabilities. DO NOT go into the mines without food. There are too many monsters and if you are going into the mines for the first time, you’re going to get slaughtered.
If nothing else bring some trail mix or some soup so that you have something to prevent against your health being brought all the way down to zero. Later once you’re more fortified with better gear then MAYBE you can skip the food. Maybe, still wouldn’t recommend it.
Go Where You Grow
In this game the museum actually accepts your crops as donations. That being said, try to grow the with the seasons. Not only will this fill your wallet, but you can fill out the museum at the same time. Each season brings different crops and it’s a whole lot easier to add crops to the museum as you go rather than trying to muster it all up later.
This goes for other things too such as forgeable items as well as bugs and fish. However, I should add a caveat to this as not everything you find in nature can be donated to the museum. Which brings me to my next tip…
Take Care of Your Health
In Fields of Mistria stamina and health are two different things. Stamina is the bar that you see in the upper left-hand corner and is color coded green. This is the amount of energy that you have to complete tasks in the game, and you only have so much of it before you run out. Your health bar is also in the upper right-hand corner and is colored red. You will only ever see your health bar in the mines as this is the only life-threatening situation (unless you eat something poisonous but that’s a player choice).
Running out of stamina will not result in anything too serious as the only issue is that you won’t be able to do things like chop wood or use your pickaxe. Losing all your health on the other hand is REALLY bad as you will black out if this happens. This will result in the loss of some items on your person and having to pay for the doctor to come rescue you. If you’re planning on doing strenuous work, try to keep some food on or near you at all times as this will restore your health as well as your stamina.
Try to Check All the Boxes
Newer indie games have been implementing a new way of keeping track with museum donations and I am LOVING it. How Fields of Mistria is doing this is by putting a white box in the upper right-hand corner of the description for each item. You can tell whether something has been donated by seeing if this box has a green check mark. If the green check mark is lacking and there is just a white box, then this mean that the item is available to be donated.
This makes donating items so much easier and makes the collecting process even more fun. This mechanic is also helpful as, for example, not every fish or bug can be donated. Make sure to look at this feature anytime you’re questioning whether an item needs to be donated or not. It will save you a lot of headache.
Conclusion
While these tips are helpful nothing beats actually playing the game. I highly encourage you to explore the world of this excellent new game and discover what works for you during your play through. Fields of Mistria is a pastel color cozy game that will make you feel all warm while also giving you lots to experience. I hope that these six tips helped to add to the enjoyment of the game for you and if nothing else to add to your experience.
