Story
In this game, you are the newly ostracized member of the eccentric, and extremely magical, Von Teasel family. After one-too-many magical mishaps your grandmother decides to give you one last chance to prove whether you should continue your magical training. You are sent to the small village of Flora to aid them in preparations for their harvest festival.
For the next two weeks it is your job to act as the town’s witch and to support the villagers with your magic in order to make the harvest festival a success. But this task is not an easy one and you will soon learn that there is more to magic than just making potions and reading tarot cards.
Witchy Life Story is a very story centric game with lots of interesting characters and fun scenarios. The town of Flora used to boast a huge harvest festival each year that would bring many from miles around. Now, the festival is a shadow of its former glory and tensions run high as the villagers work to make this festival a huge success.
Due to this scenario the game gives you a fun and insightful perspective of each member of the village’s life and how the festival is impacting them. As you form relationships with the townsfolk of Flora you start to see how the story unfolds in a way that is wholesome and cozy.
The game focuses on the concept that there is more to people than just trying to find a silver bullet answer to every problem. This story is an experience that feels akin to sitting beside a warm fireplace in a cottage. Comforting and good for the soul. The story is not complex but rather realistic in the sense of how dealing with people is not always so cut and dry. This could be an issue for some gamers looking for something that has a more in-depth story line. But for those looking for a game that warms you to the core as you learn more about the village and its people consider checking out this game.
Gameplay
If you thought the story was cute and cozy wait until you hear about the gameplay. As the town witch your job is to fulfill the magical orders that are sent to you by mail from the townspeople. To do this, you create potions, oils, incense, and charms to help aid whatever need you can decipher from each person’s order letter. Grow plants in your garden to use as ingredients in your creations. Create potions in your caldron, read tarot cards, and create magical artifacts all in an effort to help the townsfolk.
As you go to deliver your orders this is where you will glean the vast majority of the story around you. You learn about the desire, needs, and fears of your neighbors as you navigate your way magically, and socially, through the game.
None of the gameplay is especially hard and crafting your magical wares can be done through the use of your grimoire. A book full of magical knowledge about plants, crystals, gardening, people, and just magical knowledge in general.
This centralized way of presenting information to the players simplifies the process and makes gaining knowledge way easier for playing the game. While this game is fun and wholesome there is not a big to do here. The gameplay is simple and repetitive in a way that is conducive to the story.
This is broken up by the constant delivery of story through your deliveries so you never feel stagnate playing this game. You are always progressing and there is never a wrong answer to social situations, rather, it is how you decide to progress through the story.
Those looking for more varied gameplay might get bored of this game. However, those who prefer simplistic gameplay that works in tandem with an active story will most likely enjoy this witchy adventure.
