Intro
It’s not an uncommon dream for many a cozy gamer to run off into the woods in search of a cozy cottage, llama farm, or to escape to the fae realm. The cozier corners of social media are often riddled with posts from people about how they are threatening to go off into the woods in search of a life away from society after yet another hard day at the office.
However, it is not often that I see many people citing the desire to run into the forest to start a bed and breakfast…as a bear. And yet, there is a cozy game that revolves around this very topic.
Gummy Cat has developed one of the more unique popular cozy games within the last few years known as Bear and Breakfast. A cute story driven game that brings the player into a new cozy adventure as a bear who just wants to run a bed and breakfast. This fun and low-stakes adventure brings about a new and innocent take on the hospitality market.
In this self-proclaimed hotel management style sim you play as a young bear who wants to start his own business as a bed and breakfast owner. Create your new franchise as you build, craft, and decorate your way into being the bed and breakfast you can be. This game has garnered some popularity as it’s cartoony design, cozy atmosphere, and enjoyable premise have captured the hearts of many.
But is this game the one for you? This article is here to help guide you through that very decision and help you decide whether you should play Bear and Breakfast.

Storyline
In the world of Bear and Breakfast you play as a young bear named Frankie who discovers while on an errand one day the lucrative industry of hospitality. Humans are returning to the forest and the company Pawn Voyages is looking to lap up the profits by finding new, and impressionable, entrepreneurs to help develop the land to attract tourists. After conversing with the stuffed shark named Fin, you are inducted into Pawn Voyages hospitality program. Through the help of your friends, and the VERY shady advice from Fin, you can start your new bed and breakfast.
As you progress through the story you meet new NPCs that unlock new areas, resources, and quests that allow you to progress through the story. It’s evident that the forest is filled with many interesting creatures that add to the game’s storyline. Fat rats, eager beavers, and resourceful raccoons litter the landscape as you create new friendships that allow you, and your business, to flourish. Meet this fun and colorful cast of characters as you unlock the secrets to running a business in this not so concrete jungle.
The storyline provides the player with an interesting plot that allows for a fun and linear gaming experience. The plot of the game provides a more structured form of play as you are ushered through each aspect of running your business. Bear and Breakfast is centered around two things: Hotel management and the storyline. These two aspects are intertwined and the further you progress in the story the better you become at running your business.
This is a great game for someone looking to unwind and follow a cute storyline while they manage their hospitality business. Though this game’s story is fun it is heavy on the linearity. This game does not feature that much of an open world so if that is a deal breaker for you then Bear and Breakfast may not be your cup of tea. On the other hand, if you like story and task driven content that is cute to boot then Bear and Breakfast may be right up your alley.
Gameplay
As for the gameplay Bear and Breakfast follows that of a hotel management sim. While the game is quite story driven much of it depends on the different quests that you complete. As mentioned above the game runs on a relatively simple and linear structure. Much of your time is taken up by renovating structures into new tourist attractions to gain more traction for your business.
As you progress through the game you gain more ways to create better quality structures for your guests to stay in. Creating motels, cabins, and other structures gives you a wider range of what you can do with your business. Of course, this also gives you a wider net for gaining profit as well. While the game is fun the controls are not very intuitive.
Many of the basic controls are the same as other games many of the controls, especially those involved in building, may require some patience for you to learn them. I’ve been playing video games for a long time and even I was having trouble trying to figure out what buttons to press for completing different tasks.
It can be a bit of a struggle so that is an aspect that you will need to consider if you are deciding whether to purchase a game. However, this game is fun despite some of the control issues and if that is the only issue holding you back from playing then you should highly consider purchasing this game for your own.
