Story
The great thing about this game is that there is only one goal and the whole story revolves around that one goal: To be a menace to society. In the world of The Untitled Goose Game, you play as an ordinary goose with an unordinary penchant for mischief.
As you go through the town your objective is to unlock each area of the map by completing a small list of goals that often require you to make basic tasks as hard as possible for all the humans around you. Steal people’s stuff, throw things in the river, mess with shop owners, and honk at people until they submit to your whims. The game’s “story” is really just about accomplishing an objective and figuring out how to fulfill that objective but in the funniest way possible.
Gameplay
I mentioned earlier that the point of this game is basically to just solve the objectives you are given in the funniest way possible. As you roleplay through the story as quite possibly the silliest goose the game mechanics revolve around giving you the most fun and relaxing experience. That means using all the tools in your goose arsenal to complete objectives.
As you waddle around the map you will steal things with your long beak, honk at people incessantly, and swim down river as you find new places to wreak your bird like havoc on. There is no grand quest or high stakes in this game. This game is literally built around the concept of being a mischievous goose. The music, atmosphere, and world of the untitled goose are soothing despite the game’s initial premise.
That being said, gamers who prefer having a heavy storyline or don’t like the idea of role playing as the small, winged menace of a small village, then maybe reconsider. But if causing problems in, what looks to be, a small European town as an annoying bird sounds right up your ally then this game is for you.
Pros
- Cheeky mechanics
- Calming music
- Low stakes
- Relaxing
- Fun puzzles
Cons
- Not a lot of story.
- You must commit crimes (stealing, disturbing the peace, etc) which might be a turn off for some.
- Only 3 hours long
Conclusion
While the world of cozy games is a wonderfully wholesome one sometimes it’s fun to give into your more mischievous side. The Untitled Goose Game is a fun short indie puzzle game that brings out the silly little goose in all of those who enjoy the game. While it is advised that those looking for a meatier story or less tom foolery may want to reconsider if you’re looking to bring out the silly little goose living inside you consider checking out The Untitled Goose Game.
